Indigenous Partnerships

Walking Together, Respectfully and Purposefully

At Bayton, we recognise that meaningful reconciliation is not a single milestone, but an ongoing journey.

Our commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is embedded in our culture, our governance, and the way we deliver services every day.

Guided by our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we work alongside First Nations communities to create opportunities, build respectful relationships, and ensure our workplaces and projects reflect cultural understanding.

We believe reconciliation starts with listening, continues through genuine partnership, and endures through action.

 Respectful & Ethical Partnerships

We focus on long-term, place-based partnerships with Indigenous-owned businesses and service providers, ensuring economic benefits flow directly to local communities. This approach supports both government social procurement targets and the values of our private sector partners. Our commitments include:

  • Collaborative procurement with Supply Nation-certified suppliers and Indigenous-owned enterprises
  • Direct engagement with local Traditional Owner groups at the start of every major contract
  • Site-based cultural protocols that protect and respect heritage values
  • Inclusion of Indigenous businesses within our approved supplier list.

 Employment & Career Pathways

We know that sustainable change comes from creating pathways, not just jobs. Bayton’s RAP includes actions to:

  • Recruit, train, and retain Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees in culturally safe environments

  • Provide mentorship and leadership opportunities to support long-term career growth

  • Celebrate cultural identity through workplace events, uniforms, and recognition programs
  • Partner with Indigenous training organisations to co-design programs that meet both employee aspirations and client needs.

 Cultural Learning & Awareness

Cultural competency is more than training, it’s a shared responsibility. All Bayton people, from frontline staff to executives, are expected to contribute to a culturally respectful workplace. At Bayton, we:

  • Deliver mandatory cultural awareness training as part of onboarding and leadership development
  • Participate in NAIDOC Week, National Reconciliation Week, and other significant cultural events
  • Embed Acknowledgment of Country and Welcome to Country practices in our operations and client engagements
  • Support team members in learning local language words and cultural protocols relevant to their sites.

Governance & Accountability

Our approach is designed to meet, and where possible, exceed the requirements of government agencies and large corporate clients. We ensure:

  • Transparent reporting on RAP progress, including measurable targets for employment, procurement, and engagement
  • Annual review of Indigenous engagement performance by our Executive Leadership Team
  • Alignment with Australian Government Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP) and state-based requirements
  • Integration of Indigenous engagement into ESG and sustainability reporting.

Walking the Talk, with Local Communities at the Centre

For us, a RAP is not a static document, it is a living framework that shapes every aspect of our business. We actively work with First Nations voices to co-create safer, more inclusive spaces and deliver outcomes that matter to the communities we serve.

By embedding Indigenous engagement into our procurement, employment, and service delivery, we’re helping clients achieve their own reconciliation, diversity, and ESG objectives.
